Ahem. So today, June 30th (close enough), we got to sleep in. Eleven hours of blissful blissful sleep. I was the first kid up, as usual, and just kind of crashed on the couch until everyone else woke up. We had a lazy breakfast and chilled around the house. I think I took a nap at one point or another.
We had delicious spaghetti and meatballs for lunch. I was told that Mariella only makes this kind of sauce on rare occasions so we were very lucky. Also, in Italy they don't eat meatballs with their pasta but we did anyways.
In the early evening Mariella dropped us off at the playground and we played frisbee for awhile before heading down the stairs to the market in the park. A bunch of vendors were set up selling both handmade and prepackaged goods. It had rides for the children and a whole row of food stalls. There was also entertainment provided: a fashion show put on by a bunch of hunky Italian men. The boys didn't want to watch it but I did.
I only had a 20€ note and Mattia and I spent a good 20 minutes going from stall to stall seeing if anyone had the change to break it.
The boys decided to get kebabs for a snack while I opted for gelato (forever and always).
At the gelato place the boys stole my phone and took pictures of themselves. This is payback.
After gelato, we went back to the playground and watched a bit of the soccer game that was playing. A lot of people were there at the time and they all stated at us as we walked by. It was either because we were acting stupid or talking in English- probably both.
A girl- we call her "purple shirt"- ran up to Mattia and stole his hat. Nobody knew who she was but she wouldn't stop all night long. Eventually Mattia tackled her to the ground and got it back. She didn't stop in her attempts. The boys had fun slinging around English cusses because she didn't speak our language.
We also had a dance party on the side of the road while we waited for Giancarlo to pick us up. I don't think the old people at the market appreciated our style.
We had a late dinner with Giancarlo's mother and delicious pastries for dessert. Ricotta cannolis are heavenly.
