Day 23:Noto

Date: 6-12-13

I seem to have an obsession with not getting any sleep. After going to bed at 3am (as I said before), I woke up at 8am so that I could drive back into Catania with Giancarlo, Mariella, Sofia, and Emanuele.

The first part of the car trip was quiet as we were all still half asleep but the second part of the hour I spent attempting to prod and nudge how to do the magic trick out of Emanuele. My efforts wielded no results. He kept silent and I was kept in the dark. I hope your life is as black as your guilty soul, Emanuele.

After dropping Emanuele off at his home, we went to our house and I posted the couple of blog entries that I had written before we got back in the car and I had to say goodbye to the Internet. Next we went to a shopping mall so that Mariella could buy new shoes before journeying the hour car trip back to the sea house.

By the time we got home, it was lunch time so we ate and played cards as per usual. It was extremely and miserably hot and I was tired and cranky and couldn't get cool any which way. The boys played some basketball but we mostly just moped around until 5:30 when we left to go to Noto.

The town of Noto is very historic in the sense that all their buildings have the original facade. It is illegal to remodel the building on the outside but most of them are modernized on the inside. Every way you turned there were churches and ancient stone structures.

The first church we entered was in the middle of mass. Technically I wasn't supposed to take pictures but the sign was in Italian so oops.

Giancarlo explained that all the insides of the churches here were white and completely redone from their original form.

Walking down the street it was easy to see many more churches.

I definitely don't think that they were tall enough... There might have been a mountain or two that couldn't fit.

This was one of the only ceilings we saw that were painted.

It was a beautiful church, but airy and empty.

We strolled down the street a bit farther and I took pictures of things that I felt to be beautiful and typical italian.

This is a church with a souvenir shop connected to it. See what I mean about modern?

This building used to be a church way back when but has since been converted into a school.

Although the sun was going down, it wasn't any less sticky and hot outside so we didn't spend as much time as we could walking around. Opting for dinner, we loaded the car up and drove to our nearby B&B restaurant.

Everyone was hungry because we devoted the bread and appetizers as soon as they were set before us.

The appetizers consisted of a broccoli lasagna thing, potato stuffed zucchini, a meatball, a mini pizza ball, and cheese. I ate all of it.

Our next dish was pasta. I chose the meat spaghetti with peas but there was also an option of rice. In my opinion, it was the best food of the night.

After eating all of what is shown, my stomach felt ready to burst and there was still two courses left. We had to get up and walk around while we waited for our meat dish.

I got meatballs. It came with two but I could only manage to eat one. I offered to reenact the scene from Lady and the Tramp but no one wanted to get their nose dirty.

By this time, a giant group of Americans (Asian American) had sat at the table across from us. Their party consisted of mostly adults but one white child named Edward. The child kept getting in trouble so the parents would always shout "Edward!". We picked up this habit so by the end of the night if anything went wrong we would mutter Edward's name under our breath.

For dessert I got biscuit pudding. It's base was a typical Italian cookie and it was very good.

We all fell asleep in the car ride home and I think I was the first one in bed when we got back to the sea house.
